Our Apple Orchard Gives More Than Just Apples

Summer is a time of growth at the South Plains Food Bank! Yet, many people don’t know about the 2,700-tree apple orchard that grows just behind our building. This orchard provides thousands of pounds of fresh produce that goes right back to the food bank for distribution.

Often, it’s harder to procure fresh fruits and vegetables in the hotter months when they’re at their highest demand. But our orchard helps us overcome this challenge by growing nine different varieties of apples, as well as pomegranates, persimmons, and figs.

Our orchard also yields robust volunteer opportunities, where people can connect with nature and give back to the community. That’s a double win! It’s no wonder so many groups choose the orchard for their community service or team-building events to provide a hands-on opportunity that’s fun for all.

Your support fuels our orchard, from the top of a tree’s leaves to its roots! Thank you for providing fresh produce — and fun opportunities — for our neighbors.
